Agricultural and Horticultural Science 2.1 Internal assessment resource reference number: AgHort/2/1 – B version 4 ”Growing More Chickens” Achievement Standard 91289 version 2 Carry out a practical agricultural or horticultural investigation with supervision Credits: 4 Student Instructions Sheet The Task · You are to plan an investigation into the effect of different types of feed formula on the growth rate of day old chickens over a 14 day period. · Examine the information on the feed labels and select three feeds with different levels of dietary protein. · You are then to carry out the investigation in which you feed and monitor the growth of the chickens and collect appropriate data. · Process the data and present it in a written report in which you relate your findings to your initial prediction. Draw conclusions and critically evaluate your investigation. With supervision means that your teacher gives you guidelines for the investigation such as the context for the investigation, equipment available or chemicals to use. You then design, complete and report on the investigation using the guidelines provided. Supervision may include teacher discussion with you in order to clarify ideas. Conditions: Plan · You will work independently in a classroom setting. · You will be allowed one period to carry out Stage 1 (Preliminary Planning Sheet). · You must hand in the Preliminary Planning Sheet for checking before you can carry out the investigation. · You will be allowed one period to write up your Final Planning Sheet and to set up the investigation. · Your submitted plan is to be written on the investigation planning sheet. Investigation · You will be individually responsible for ensuring that you measure and record in a retrievable / systematic form, accurate, relevant information. · The teacher may determine your group size and composition. · Class time will be allowed for care of the chickens · You must hand in a named copy of the initial recorded data at 7 and 14 days. Report · You will work independently in a classroom setting. · You will be allowed two classroom periods to complete Stages 3 and 4 (the written report). · You will be given your copy of data collected during the growing period at the beginning of the report-writing period. |
